Learn Baby Water Conditioning. Building Confidence from Bath Time

The Joy of Bath Time: Bonding and Early Learning

Bath time provides the perfect opportunity to bond with your baby and create a positive relationship. If that parent is comfortable we can start the conditioning process at home in the bath.

Introducing Water Conditioning: Building Breath Control on Cue

Cup conditioning teaches baby’s breath control on command. By learning breath control on a verbal cue we are preparing baby for their future swimming lessons in the pool, where they will learn to submerge underwater when they show signs of individual readiness.

By conditioning baby to hold their breath on cue we allow baby’s first underwater experience outside the womb to be safe and positive. Always read baby’s body language and respond to their needs.

See it in Action: Baby Evie’s Positive Response

In this video you will see baby Evie responding positively to both cup conditioning in the bath and shower. Here she is starting to show readiness for future underwater submersions at the pool.

Essential Safety Rules for Bath Time & Conditioning

  • Never condition a crying baby.
  • Adult supervision is mandatory during bath time.
  • Adults must remain within arms reach, maintain active supervision and be in a position to respond quickly.
  • Empty the bath water immediately after use.
  • Remember drowning is a leading cause of accidental death in children under the age of 5.
  • Bathtubs and swimming pools are common locations where children under 5 drown.

Patience and Progress: Following Your Baby’s Lead

Don’t worry if your baby is not yet responding to the conditioning process. Keep up daily bath and shower practice. Always progress according to your child’s individual readiness.

Connecting Home Practice to Formal Swimming Lessons

All baby swimming classes must be conducted in a safe and positive learn to swim environment. Each Baby and Toddler should be encouraged to learn to swim according to their individual readiness. The learn to swim process should follow a step by step process including water familiarisation, breath control, submersion, floating and propulsion.

Adult supervision is always required when in and around the water.
